Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry

5 from 1 review

Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry is a classic dish with its roots in Chinese-American cuisine. This dish is special because it combines tender beef, crisp broccoli, and a flavorful sauce, all cooked quickly in a wok to retain their nutrients and texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, finely chopped
  • ½ cup beef broth or water

Substitutions and Variations

  • Protein: Instead of beef, you can use chicken or tofu.
  • Vegetables: Add bell peppers, snap peas, or carrots for more variety.
  • Sauces: If you don’t have hoisin sauce, use an extra tablespoon of soy sauce plus 1 teaspoon of sugar.

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Cook the Beef
Add the marinated beef to the hot wok. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until it’s just browned but not fully cooked. Remove the beef from the wok and set it aside.
  2. Step 2: Stir-Fry Broccoli
Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil into the wok. Toss in the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 2 minutes. Pour in ½ cup of beef broth or water, cover, and steam for an additional 2 minutes until the broccoli is crisp-tender.
  3. Step 3: Aromatics
Make a well in the center of the wok and add a bit more oil if needed. Add the minced garlic and chopped ginger. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Step 4: Combine
Return the beef to the wok. Add the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, and hoisin sauce. Stir everything together to coat evenly in the sauce. Cook for 1-2 more minutes until the beef is fully cooked and the broccoli is tender.
  5. Step 5: Final Touch
    – Drizzle 1 tablespoon of sesame oil over the stir-fry and give it a final stir. Remove from heat and serve immediately.

Notes

Ensure your wok is properly preheated and that you’re continuously stirring to prevent the ingredients from sticking and to achieve a perfect stir-fry texture.
